Downtown Los Angeles is alive. Between concerts, art shows, fitness classes, eateries, festivals and events of every kind, it's hard to be bored in this city. Since downtown's revitalization in the last ten years, the problem has not been lack of things to do, but it could have been how to find them. Converse fan Lizette V. found a way to keep followers at the speed of the city's pulse with her Instagram account @HappeningInDTLA. Happening In DTLA posts everything from breathtaking shots of the electric skyline to the yummiest plates to the places you didn't know were happening all along.
Lizette moved to DTLA in 2014 and quickly realized the city had more to offer than she could possibly discover on her own. She also realized she might not be alone and in July 2014 she and her partners started @HappeningInDTLA with zero followers. As of May 2015 the account has over 24k and attracts new followers every day.
Lizette sees Los Angeles as one big community and doesn’t think all the coolness has to be exclusive. Happening In DTLA is an 'open canvas for enthusiastic writers, bloggers, artists and photographers in and around the DTLA area. Together the contributors paint a diverse and exciting picture of the city that only locals can create.'
Fact, because Lizette works so hard on this passion project, she gets invited to special events. Lizette is a member of Art Share LA's Young Professionals Advisory Board. She gives Art Share LA events exposure through Happening In DTLA and assists with the non-profit's marketing. Last month she was invited to muralist Kent Twitchell's studio in DTLA for an event celebrating the resurrection of the artist's iconic 'Freeway Lady' mural at LA Valley College.
Lizette works in marketing full-time and has a passion for art and experiencing the world. She doesn't believe having a nine-to-five schedule means her adventurous spirit has to settle. She paints, travels and makes trying new things a daily practice for herself.
Happening In DTLA harnesses the wide net of social media to connect people and places in real life. It puts the city at your fingertips with the voice of the DTLA community. It's a tool for communication and encouragement for everyone in DTLA and visitors from beyond city borders to stay in touch with all the city has to offer.
Lizette keeps it simple in a tee designed and screen-printed by the Happening In DTLA crew and Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars in Optical White. That and an inspiring attitude are all she needs to take on the world.
