Trend Spotlight: Animal Prints
Animal prints have been coveted by humans since long before we figured out how to dye canvas and vulcanize rubber. Luckily modern times don’t require us to hunt anything in the animal kingdom to wear their captivating patterns. Animal print shoes and backpacks are a theme this fall with several brands.
When prowling the concrete jungle, you can have your choice of creepers, sneaker wedges, or basic lace-ups to feed your need for savage style. You can even get any pups or cubs in your life to follow in your footprints with animal print baby and youth shoes made just for their little paws. Does anyone else feel like purring yet?
Why is everyone so wild about animal prints this year? Intricate, bold and peculiar prints were making appearances on wardrobes everywhere this spring and summer. Take the print trend to the next level this fall by mixing and matching unexpected combinations. Start your wearing and pairing print fun with your shoes. Leopard spots, zebra stripes or snakeskin printed kicks can immediately add a little bit of ferocity to your look. Pairing plaids and polka dots is fun, but for eye-popping greatness you can try combining contrasting colors or mixing polka dots and florals with your tiger stripes and cheetah spots!
One of the more captivating patterns from the animal kingdom are ‘eye-spot’ markings called ocellus found on birds, lizards, felines and butterflies. Biologists think wild animals developed intricate markings like ocellus to distract predators from attacking vital areas on an animal’s body, but we think wearing shoes and accessories inspired by the beautiful markings created by nature allows us to get wildly creative with our wardrobe. Animal print Yak Pak makes the most of this visually appealing pattern with a jewel tone peacock pack. Jansport and Vans also went exotic with their striped packs.
We could show you pictures of models wearing the latest animal print creations from top designers for their fall 2013 lines, but animals have been wearing their prints for years and it works for them. Our instincts tell us to keep tracking the animal print trend since we’re seeing it everywhere.
